Brentwood Elementary helps to restore Beecher Creek

We love when kids get excited about the work we do!
On November 18, the Evergreen BC team joined Jim Atwater of Beecher Creek Streamkeepers and Grade 2 and 3 students from Burnaby's Brentwood Elementary School to plant 44 trees and shrubs.
The kids couldn’t wait to get their shovels and start digging! Unfortunately the ground was a little frozen and full of roots, so some enthusiastic parents and teachers helped dig the holes.
The red currants, oregon grapes, vine maples and western red cedars that we planted are part of a larger restoration effort throughout the Beecher Creek park area, which is a part of the Still Creek Watershed. Since the creek is right down the road from Brentwood Elementary, we hope that many of these students will be able to come back to enjoy the park and see their plants grow.

In the upcoming year, Evergreen BC will continue our dedicated effort to restore the Still Creek watershed, through our Uncover Still Creek program.
In cooperation with our community and municipal partners, Evergreen BC will engage the public in stewardship and restoration activities aimed at improving fish and wildlife habitat, and creating healthy community green spaces for everyone to enjoy!
