Brick by Brick: The Story of Evergreen Brick Works

As we reflect on our first anniversary here at the Brick Works, it is with great excitement that we announce the premiere of Brick by Brick: The Story of Evergreen Brick Works, which will air on October 2 at 9pm on OMNI 2 (Cable 14 in Toronto).

Be sure to tune in for an insider’s view of how this project unfolded as we worked toward our Grand Opening on September 25 2010!

Brick by Brick is a one-hour documentary that tells the story of Geoff Cape and his determination to transform a 125-year-old former industrial site—Toronto’s Don Valley Brick Works—into a multimillion-dollar ecological and cultural centre, the first of its kind in the world. Directed by award-winning film maker Catherine Annau, Brick by Brick is the uplifting story of one man’s passion for saving the planet, one brick at a time.

“People in cities feel that environmental issues are happening somewhere else, in rainforests, with polar bears, with whales. But the heart of environmental issues is about values that people hold in the way they live their lives in cities. And that’s where we need to start making changes.”
-Geoff Cape, founder of Evergreen

Our sincere thanks goes out to everyone involved in this project. From Catherine to Producer Jennifer Holness of Hungry Eyes Film & Television and her entire crew, to OMNI Television, to the cast of characters including those interviewed who aren’t in the film, to John Phillips and his family for sharing their old footage and last but not least, the former Don Valley Brick Works employees.
