Developers look to EBW for Green Design inspiration

Commercial real estate is a billion-dollar industry. With office towers busily sprouting up throughout Toronto, you’d wonder if they would ever stop to look at a little project going on in the Don Valley. Indeed they do.

In front of 1,000 professionals at the Toronto Convention Centre, the GTA chapter of the North American Commercial Real Estate Development Association recently honoured the Evergreen Brick Works design team (du Toit Allsopp Hillier, Halsall, Diamond Schmitt and Evergreen) with the Green Award of the Year.

The NAIOP REX Awards is a recognition program that celebrates the achievements of the office, industrial and mixed-use real estate industry. The awards criteria focus on results (quality and performance), skills (teamwork, collaboration, innovation and creativity) and values (community and environmental awareness). This award comes on the heels of Evergreen Brick Works winning the “Best of the Best” in the green building category by the Toronto Construction Association 14th annual awards.

The NAIOP association, which represents close to 2,200 companies, presented 2011 project achievement awards in three categories. It also honoured firms that best demonstrate a green building culture.
