Discovering the greener side of Vancouver with Sydney Kjellander

We sat down with Sydney to talk about why she chose to get involved with us, and what drives her to make change in her community.
“I was looking for a challenging and fun volunteer opportunity with an environmental organization,” said the avid cycler and gardener. “I had never heard of Evergreen before, but the description ‘making Cities more livable’ resonated with me, and I was excited to learn more about the organization and their local projects.”
And the timing couldn’t have been better. When Sydney came across the Green City Race Producer position, she thought, “It sounded perfect. I was drawn to the opportunity to be creative, learn more about interesting green sites in the city, and make use of my skills in project coordination, research and problem solving.”
The Race was also a great opportunity for Sydney to meet the Evergreen BC team and discover some other people who share her interests in the environment and in making Vancouver a better place to live.
So did Sydney get everything she was looking for out of her experience with Evergreen?
“One of my favourite memories was being at the Challenge sites during the Race and getting caught up in all the energy and enthusiasm of the Racers––it was such a great experience that I would love to volunteer on more Evergreen projects in the future.”
