EBW recognized at the Smart Commute Awards

The 2011 Smart Commute Awards ceremony took place on November 15 to recognize the efforts of workplaces from Brampton to Ajax in helping their employees find alternative means of getting to work.
Eleven companies from the GTA and Hamilton took home Employer of the Year Awards, with Evergreen Brick Works winning special recognition in three areas—including the partner with the most cyclists and the workplace with the most people walking to work. To round out our awards, EBW had the best “overall non-single occupancy vehicle (SOV) mode share,” which means that we had the largest percentage of staff using alternative forms of sustainable transportation.
The awards officially recognize and celebrate employers and employees’ commitment to their Smart Commute plan. For Evergreen and the tenants at EBW, this means bicycling and walking to work though the Don Valley, carpooling, using public transit and taking the shuttle bus.
Smart Commute, a partner program between Metrolinx and the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, helps employers and staff choose alternative, sustainable methods of getting to work through their online ridematch carpooling program and other resources.
