Engage your community and help trees “take root” across Canada

Trees perform invaluable natural services that benefit everyone—from creating habitat and food sources for local wildlife to filtering air and water, and providing much-needed shade on hot summer days. Stewardship and restoration projects don’t just enhance local biodiversity and wildlife habitat, they also reconnect people with nature and improve the quality of life in their communities.

In celebration of National Tree Day and to encourage community engagement in public spaces, Canon and Evergreen have partnered to deliver Canon’s Take Root Program. Officially launched on April 27, the program will award $5,000 and a Canon PowerShot camera to 30 community groups across Canada for tree-planting projects throughout September 2012.

Our aim is to add more than 7,500 trees to the Canadian urban landscape through native tree-planting events, invasive-species removal, and other community stewardship and development activities.

Applications are currently available and are due by May 25! Visit our website for more information and to download an application today.

I have a variety of native wild plants in my backyard, I have checked a few out on the internet, and in books, and found that some are edible.  Do you have any native plant tours, with someone knowledgeable to educate others on the native wild edible species of plants.  Thank you.

Hi Neysha!
We don’t have any upcoming tours planned but you are welcome to join us next Thursday at our Green Bites cooking workshop, led by Jonathan Forbes of Forbes Wild Foods. Jonathan will be teaching the basics of foraging, which foods you can forage in the area, and, even better, how to cook with them! You can find all the info and registration here: http://ebw.evergreen.ca/whats-on/food/green-bites#may17
Hope to see you there!
