Green City Family: The Dimocks
Proving that volunteering with Evergreen can be fun for the whole family are parents Blair, Verity and their twin boys Malcolm and Cameron Dimock, volunteers since January 2012. The Dimocks have become a regular addition to our Outdoor Health and Recreation programs at Evergreen Brick Works, contributing their time and energy year-round to both our Bike Works and Skating programs.
We volunteer because…
It’s a great way to spend time together as a family. Plus, we all love skating so when we heard about the ice trail and the chance to volunteer there, it was a perfect fit! We’re also big fans of biking in the city. Bike Works was a great way to learn more about bicycle maintenance and to help people get more engaged in active transportation.
What we hope to achieve…
Verity: A stronger sense of pride in our community.
Malcolm: Meet many more interesting new people!
Cameron: Have a lot of fun while getting my volunteer hours for school.
Blair: Give back to our community in ways that make a difference to the quality of life here.
Why volunteering as a family is important to us…
Being able to get involved in the community and spend time together all at once is great for us. As the boys get older, having opportunities like this to be together and make a difference adds a special dimension to our family life.
Some of our best experiences/memories…
Verity: All the people we’ve met through Evergreen.
Malcolm: Helping the little kids at the skating rink learn to skate.
Cameron: The Bike Works Pancake Breakfast!
Blair: The family who had just moved to Toronto from Texas and were skating for the first time—their first exposure to snow and real winter!
Thanks to the Dimocks's and all families who volunteer with Evergreen! Find out more about current volunteer opportunities at Evergreen.
