Spring has sprung and so has the demand for community gardens in Vancouver! In response to a five-year waitlist for a garden plot at City Hall, Evergreen and the City of Vancouver are partnering to expand the City Hall Community Garden by 30 percent!

On Wednesday, June 6, Mayor Gregor Robertson, Helen Beynon (community development coordinator at Evergreen) and students from Simon Fraser Elementary came together to speak about the importance of community gardens and to announce the creation of 11 new plots.

Following the announcement and in the spirit of the garden, the Mayor and students from Simon Fraser Elementary rolled up their sleeves (and suit!) to do some planting in the Simon Fraser Elementary plot. Check out the report about the event on the Mayor’s website.
